Did Aion fool you into buying the game?

being fooled into buying aionDo you feel like Aion fooled you into buying the game because they limited your level in beta?  Would have you bought Aion if you could have experienced the grind post 30+?  Do you think they knew, and wanted to keep it a secret?

I think I was fooled into buying Aion.  The grind didn't seem bad in the beta for the lower levels.  It seemed reasonable.  The problem is NCSoft hid the real grind from me.  If I was able to experience the grind first hand in the beta I would of never bought Aion, but instead they stopped me at level 30.  It is after thirty that the real grind starts.   I bought Aion not knowing the true story even though they said they removed the grind for the US version.

I also thought my pve grind was over at fifty, but it continues as you have to farm pve mobs in the abyss for AP's.  It is the everlasting gobstopper... I mean everlasting grind in Aion.

    No one is forcing you to grind mobs for AP, you could go PvP. And no one forced you to grind post 30 when you saw clearly what a grind it was. What I don't get is how you hit 50 and all of a sudden you believe the game will be 100% different than what you played the last 49 levels.

    Maybe the fault isn't totally with the game, and some of that is resting on your expectations for what the game should be. If you kept grinding post 30 when you saw it was a grind-fest, what made you think the game would completely 180 when you hit 50? If you didn't like what you were playing the whole way up, you probably don't like the game and not the leveling process.

    Yeah, I have to agree with Kheivalo on this post. And to answer your question, I don't feel that I was fooled into buying the game. To be honest, I didn't really do a lot of research (on purpose) before getting this game. I didn't want to formulate any preconceived notions about it before giving it a fair shot. And ok, maybe you're right, and I really haven't hit the "real" grind because I haven't hit my 30's yet, but I don't expect that it will change much. I read on another blog (Hoschi's I believe) where he was actually saying how fast 40-41 went for him. /shrug

    @Kheivalo

    You are probably right. I wanted this game to be more like Warhammer. I am not totally sure it's the game, but what I was used to with my guild in WAR.

    It just doesn't have the same feel. It seems like no one is having fun, and joking around on vent like we did before.

    I think I just need to sit back, and wait for more to reach 50 in my guild, and do some crafting or something to kill some time.

    @Mojeaux

    Actually I think it was other players that probably gave me the false signals. Every blog, forum, and etc was clogged with how great Aion was going to be, and I fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

    Personally I don't feel tricked into buying it. My main character is in the early 30s, so I haven't experienced any particular uber-grind, but I have noticed a slow-down. Even so, I expect grinds in MMOs, and don't feel particularly tricked into it. Personally, I'm still enjoying it.

    We'll see how I feel when I get back into hardcore leveling, I guess. ;)

    I learned a long time ago with MMO's to slow down and smell the roses. It's a much more enjoyoable experience. Sure, you don't get bragging rights about how fast you leveled to the top, but I think you get a much richer game experience if you take your time. Obviously it's much better if you have a good group of friends to explore the game with, but it's not a total loss either if you have to solo some.

    To be honest, after playing GuildWars competetitive for 4 years, that Aion does indeed has a lot of grind, compared to what i was used. True, you can also grind in GW, but it has a level cap of 20 which you can easily reach within a single day.

    However, these open-world type of MMO's do have a grind, and i was expecting it. So in that sense, i wasn't tricked.

    I sometimes do wish for a little bit less grind, but ultimately it's not as bad (close to 43) as i thought it would. I have to agree with Mojeaux that as long as you play with other friends in a group, there's literally no grind at all, rather a nice group experience.

    On the Elyos side, reaching 20 isn't a big deal. Then you have a bit of a drag till 25, then it's the Training Camp till 30, the Eracus Temple and Fire Temple till 37, from then on Kaidan HQ till 41, Aether Labs and Steel Rake, ...

    You always have an instance you can run with friends, which is fun and doesn't feel like a dull grind.
